Ornamental Cabbage and Kale (Brassica oleracea) are beautiful, and edible, plants that add colorful foliage and light hues to your winter garden. Although these plants are edible, most gardeners grow these decorative vegetables for the dark green leaves and contrasting whites and deep purple hues. Ornamental Cabbage and Kale can be grown in almost any environment but like cool temperatures and become the most colorful in the fall.
When planting into the ground, space 12-15 inches apart and dig into the soil to about 8 inches. Use tighter spacing in colder regions, because plants won’t grow as quickly.
